Very Terri (Soap Opera Digest - December 28, 2004) Sure, A Baby Changes Everything, But ATWT's Terri Colombino Is Still Her Candid, Genuine Self - It's hard to believe that Terri Colombino, who joined AS THE WORLD TURNS in her early 20s and seems like the type who blows through for a few years before heading off to do other things, is not only a fixture in Oakdale, but a brand-new mom. She's even re-signed for three years - but what of those rumors that the call of motherhood was too great? Now, with her mother tending to baby Julia in the "maternity wing" of a quiet dressing room in the basement, Colombino settles into a studio green room that feels like she never left it and reveals how her daughter keeps her nerves in check, what almost kept her from coming back and why she doesn't want to be a superstar anymore.
DIGEST: Tell us about Julia first.
COLOMBINO: Oh, my gosh. How long do you have now? She's the sweetest, such a good baby. She's so calm. I don't know where she gets that from [laughs]! I just hope that she can stay that way because when she cries, my heart just breaks. And we're really fortunate because Artie's parents are close and my mom comes or my parents come every six weeks, so we can catch up on our sleep!
DIGEST: Are you adjusting to being a working mom?
COLOMBINO: They kind of eased me in. The first week, I only worked two days, and ever since then I've only been working two days a week, so it's not really that tough. A lot of people work a lot harder than we do, so I feel fortunate to have a job like this so I can focus on her. It's so important to us, so we each get our alone time with her and then we spend time as a family and it's been really amazing.
DIGEST: Did your whole life change in a moment as they say?
COLOMBINO: Well, I actually had a hard time the first week or two. I mean, I just to be completely honest about that because I think a lot of people don't expect it, you know? I had the baby blues - and not to be confused with postpartum depression, cause I didn't go through that. I know how hard that is on some people. It can be really scary and you should absolutely go and get help because it's not weird to go through some sort of depression. I had more of like the baby blues, where I literally cried all day long. I couldn't handle all the emotions I was feeling. Sometimes I would feel kind of depressed and then other times, I would feel so elated that I just couldn't get it all out. Actually, Laurie and Michael Park [Jack] were over and that's when it started. It's so weird. We were talking about something really sad, and I just burst into tears and didn't stop for three days. Every time someone called, I would just start crying again because I just felt so much. It's kind of like PMS times 500.
DIGEST: What kind of mom are you?
COLOMBINO: Surprisingly very calm, which is maybe why she's calm. I'm an anxious, worrying kind of person - which is why I'm surprised - but I'm not with her. Maybe she'll calm me down a little bit. That would be great - until she has to start going to school and walking down the street by herself, all those things that you'd worry about.
DIGEST: Was there ever a thought that you wouldn't come back to work?
COLOMBINO: I never had that. Of course, it felt great to be home and be with her, but that was never really one of my options and it's funny that those rumors came out... The only time I ever really thought I might not come back was during the negotiations where it got kind of sketchy - but it always does, you know? I mean, that's why you have agents. I love it here.
DIGEST: But you did almost get a part as the neighbor on JOEY.
COLOMBINO: That was hilarious. Meg Simon, who cast that show out of New York, I auditioned for a lot so she knows me really well and she knew I was pregnant, but she though I would be perfect for that part 'cause they were recasting from the pilot. So she called my agents to see if I would have the baby by the time they started shooting and they said that I was due the next week. And she's like, "Oh, great, can she come in for this role?" And if it would've been any other role, or almost any other role, I wouldn't have done it, but that was like my dream job, So, I'm about five days away from giving birth and I go in for the audition and we even made a joke about it on the tape. They really liked it and my callback was July 8 and I ended up having Julia that day. I thought, "Oh well, that's it." But they kept calling and saying, "Just have her come back next week because they didn't find anyone." So I went back about four or five days after giving birth for my callback and they put me on tape and I couldn't fly to L.A. for the next level because I had just given birth! I mean I could've done it, but it was just too much. So I said, "Tell them if they don't find anyone, then I'll fly out because she'll be two weeks old and I'll be able to do it." And they found someone in that round of tests.
DIGEST: Do you think you could have gotten it?
COLOMBINO: Well, everything happens for a reason and you don't know why until years later, but I think if I would've flown out to L.A., I would've gotten it. But I also am not so sure I want that life. I mean, never say never. If I got offered the show right now, I'd probably do it just 'cause it's a good opportunity, but it's just hard for an actor. You have to really give yourself away if you want to go that far. I even said that to Paul [Leyden, ex-Simon, who was on the recently canceled LAX]: "Pretty soon you're not gonna be able to go anywhere." And he doesn't care [laughs]. He'll love it. But to me, I like to go to the movies in my PJs and just be anonymous. You don't think about that when you first get into acting. I was like, "I want to be a huge movie star and be famous and rich," but then I really got into it for the acting. Then I was like, "Thank God, I didn't make it that fast." Because once you give away your anonymity, you can't get it back.
DIGEST: So you're pretty content here?
COLOMBINO: Yeah. Or I may just be making myself feel better [laughs]. I am content here and I like my life the way it is right now. It's like you have to step away from something to really appreciate it and that's what I've done. Now, I can come back and really focus again and be happy and thankful that I have such a great place to be.
DID YOU KNOW? Colombino is named after her grandmothers. "We wanted to name Julia either after both grandmothers, but a lot of Artie's family is named after each other and it get confusing," says the actress, so Julia only shares a middle name with her maternal grandma. "My best friend is Julie and in a way it's an honor to her, but I forgot that her middle name is Catherine too!" • Julia's baby-sitter is Australian. "So Julia can have that cute little accent. She'll be like, 'Hello, Mum!'"
WATCH YOUR MOUTH Giving birth is harrowing enough, but Colombino went through labor in front of a camera crew! It was documented for TLC's A BABY STORY. It seemed like a good idea - some of the time. "I didn't really want to do it in the beginning, but Artie really wanted to for Julia, so that she can have something like that, and now I'm so glad we did. The reason I agreed is that the hospital where I delivered doesn't allow cameras in the room when the actual birth is happening. So they were there up until that point and then they had to leave. I thought 'Well, good, I'm not going to be screaming on national television.' And because it's such a personal thing" But it still wasn't pretty, "Actually, at the time, I was kind of drugged up and it was annoying for me to have them there. I said to Artie, "Please just tell them to leave." He goes, "You're mic'd, remember?' I felt so bad afterward, I had to apologize, but they understand. They've seen everything".
JUST THE FACTS - BIRTHDAY: January 28
MARRIED TO: Arthur "Artie" Colombino since 2001
DAUGHTER JULIA CATHERINE BORN ON: July 8
ON WATCHING THE BIRTH IN THE MIRROR: "It was the craziest thing I've ever experienced, but I'm so glad I watched because, you know, can't do it over. No second takes here!"
HOW SHE GOT BACK TO PRE-PREGNANCY WEIGHT: Kickboxing "In fact, I'm gonna tell Hogan [Sheffer, head writer] that maybe Katie should be a boxer. She'll do a kickboxing video this time."
Three's Company (Soaptown USA - December 10, 2004) This month, As The World Turns fans celebrated the return of Terri Colombino as the spunky and endearing Katie Frasier. During her absence, Colombino took on the role of a lifetime - becoming a mom. Join us as she fills us in on her alter ego Katie, motherhood and what it was like to get real on "A Baby Story."
Terri Colombino was up to great things during her absence from As The World Turns this summer; on July 8th, Terri and her husband Artie welcomed their first child Julia Catherine into the world.
While in the midst of preparing for the arrival their little bundle of joy, Terri and Artie welcomed viewers of TLC's "A Baby Story" along for the ride. "They actually came to the house a couple of times before when I was pregnant" explains Terri, "and talked to us about our expectations and what we were excited about or scared about." Colombino's vocation as an actress provided an interesting and unique opportunity that strayed from the reality series' regular fare. "They did a fun thing where I went shopping for an Emmy dress - because it's not as easy to find a pretty maternity dress as it is to find a regular outfit." The episode of a "Baby Story" also featured clips of her preparing for and arriving at the annual awards show.
Cameras followed the expecting family right up to the big day. "They were there during the labor. The hospital that I was at didn't allow them to film the actual birth." explains Colombino. "We were miked but they couldn't film but they were there for some of the pushing which was interesting! Then of course they came afterward - I think she was about 6 weeks old as a follow up. That was fun. My mom was in town and Artie's parents were there and his sister - so that was fun." The Baby Story experience also helped Colombino develop the fine art of capturing those all important family moments on film. "We had to take some video on our own," explains Colombino. "It just got me in the habit of having the video camera there and just ready to roll whenever we see something cute!"
Family has always been important to Colombino and the new experience of being a mother has reinforced and strengthened the ties with her mother, Cathy Conn. "We've always been extremely close," acknowledges Colombino. "I guess it's made me appreciate her more - she keeps asking me 'Do you see how much I love you now?' and I always say well I always thought that before - but I do appreciate it more. You just can't describe that love, it's so overwhelming. Sometimes it's too much."
Colombino wholeheartedly embraces the new adventure of motherhood, stating "It is a drastic change. People can tell you that but they can't prepare you for it." Time away from her busy schedule as an actress made little Julia's arrival even more special. "Luckily I had three months off - her first three months of life," enthuses Colombino. "So I really got a chance to get to know her and bond, and sleep! Now I am back to work and it's hard. I haven't been away from her for this long yet it kind of makes me sad." Colombino finds comfort in knowing that baby Julia is home in daddy's capable hands. "He's amazing," marvels Colombino about her husband Artie. "I already know that she's my big competition for his affection. And she'll always win I'm sure," Colombino adds with a laugh but quickly reassures, "No - he's good with me too! It's been so like a dream the past three months because we've gotten to spend so much time together and it's such a new life for us. We've fallen even more in love. It's great."
Christmas for the Colombinos will be extra special this year as they prepare for their daughter's first holiday season. "It will be so fun!" Colombino says excitedly. "I don't know what we're going to do this year. I would like to go back to Albuquerque which is where I am from because we haven't been back in a couple years. But we don't have a lot of time this year and also it's her first Christmas so I want both sets of grandparents to be able to be with her. It's my favorite holiday ever and I want to make it hers too. My parents always did so many special things and just made it such a beautiful time of year."
Even at a young age, Colombino always new that acting would be a part of her future. "Yeah, I think it's always been there," recounts Colombino. "I got into it when I was pretty young - I was about 6 or 7. I did a children's theatre. Then I would get interested in something else and then it would come back. It's always been back and forth into my life." It was during a semester spent studying abroad, that the actress decided to get serious about making a career out of the acting craft. "I was in Florence for a semester," remembers Colombino. "One of the girls that I lived with there, that was going to school with me had taken a video production class and they had to do a mock Italian film and she was an actress too and she was so good and I went to see the film to support her. She was so good in it and I was so jealous - I thought, 'Okay this is definitely what I want to do, when I am done with this semester, I am going to go back to San Diego, go up to LA and get in an acting class'. It's pretty much history from there."
That history includes many memorable moments on As The World Turns as fan favorite Katie Frasier. When it comes to pinpointing her most challenging moments playing Katie, after a long pause, Colombino states, "Probably the most challenging and fulfilling was the storyline with Margo when I gave her half my liver. Unfortunately the story didn't last too long for us to really delve into it too deeply. It was challenging because I have never had a loved one be that close to death. To be the one that makes that decision to help them and keep them alive, you know, is pretty big. So, it was hard for me to really get into that and understand it but really fulfilling too because it touched a lot of people."
Now that Katie has returned after a brief absence, will fans see a change in the spunky heroine? "I think that the experiences that she's endured have definitely changed her," speculates Colombino. "And being far away has given an opportunity to look at her life from a different perspective. So, she's changed in that way, but she's still the same old Katie." Now that she is back, look for her to be shaking up the life of lost love Mike Kasnoff who Colombino assures is "a lot of the reason why she comes back."
An interview with Terri Colombino would not be complete without asking about her time on the teen series "Breaker High". "That was my first big role and it was the best!" remembers Colombino. "I lived in Vancouver for nine months. I am still really close with all of those cast members." Even back then, it was apparent to Colombino that costar Ryan Gosling was bound for great things. "The minute I met him when he was 16 years old," recalls Colombino. "He was so talented and professional and amazing. We all knew back then." But things weren't all fun and games back then for the talented actress. "It was a hard job," confirms Colombino. "They really worked us to the bone but we didn't care. It was our first big job, we were excited and we were living on our own and acting on a show. I am really proud of it - it is what it is - it's a kid's show but for what it is, I think it's one of the best."
Life couldn't be better for Terri Colombino; a successful career, a wonderful family and the support of incredible fans who Terri acknowledges with great appreciation. "Thank you for the well wishes." states the grateful actress. "It's such and emotional, beautiful time and it's nice to know that people get to feel that too."
Katie Comes Home (Soap Opera Digest - November 30, 2004) Terri Colombino (Katie) is finally back at ATWT, after having been on maternity leave since June 30 (daughter Julia was born on July 8). "It's such a weird feeling being back because I haven't met the new people and they look at me like I'm the new kid, so I have to rectify that immediately," laughs Colombino, who also re-signed for three years. That's good news for fans, who were worried that the actress had gotten too comfortable as a mom to return. "I don't know where that came from," says the actress, though another job might actually have kept her away: She was in the running to play JOEY's flirty neighbor, but didn't make it for the final audition because she had just given birth. Someone else was hired, and Colombino signed her ATWT contract. "I didn't want to not come back, but there was a day where I thought I might not, and that was weird," she reveals. "I thought I would have been okay with it, but then I brought Julia to the studio to meet everyone and I realized how much I love it here and how much I love so many of the people here. And I would have been really depressed and upset if I hadn't re-signed." Meanwhile, Katie is still abroad when viewers first see her. "In my head, she got the money from her Butt Bustin' video and she's been doing that late teens, early 20s traveling thing. Only she's staying in nice hotels instead of hostels," she grins. "I really want that to be a part of her coming-back story because with all she's been through, she would have changed a lot. It will definitely mature her and make her want to fight for what she wants instead of giving it away so easily. She's looking through a magazine and see Mike [in his Street Jeans ad]. She thought she could leave to get away from him, but it just made her think about him even more, and that's ultimately what brings her home."
In The Spotlight: Terri Colombino (CBS Soaps In Depth Online - Talkback - 2004)
Dear Terri, How did you feel when you found out they weren't going to write your pregnancy into the storyline? Krista
Terri: Dear Krista, I was pretty relieved. I didn't want Katie to have a baby, so I'm glad about that. The only thing was that it did become difficult to hide it after a while.
Dear Terri, Do you prefer playing the nice, sweet, domesticated Katie or the fun, sexy, adventurous Katie? Beverly
Terri: Dear Beverly, Well, it's always more of a challenge to play the more adventurous character and still keep her grounded. So I think the more adventurous, sexy - and any time you can be sexy, of course!
Dear Terri, What are the similarities and differences between you and Katie? Carl
Terri: Dear Carl, Well, I'd like to think I'm a little bit more mature than she is. And luckily, I haven't had to go through all of the disappointments that she has. But I am pretty ambitious like she is and I think positively about things. I don't really see the negative sides or aspects of trying to go for something that I want.
Dear Terri, Who do you wish you could have more scenes with? Kristina
Terri: Dear Kristina, Really, everyone that I don't work with. I mean, now that I've been on the show for so long, there's actually a lot of people that I don't get to work with that I would love to. Elizabeth Hubbard (Lucinda), I got to work with a little bit when I first started, but I haven't been able to work with her in forever, and she's great and so fun and spontaneous. Let's see, who else? I would really like to work with Michael Park (Jack) and Maura [West, Carly] because they're both so good and Michael always makes it fun and hilarious. Everyone for different reasons, I guess.
Dear Terri, I know you were on a TV show called BREAKER HIGH, and I love that show. I was wondering if you still talk to some of the cast? Lara
Terri: Dear Lara, I do. I still talk to Wendi [Kenya] and Rachel [Wilson]. They're both doing really well and still acting. Rachel's actually doing a new show called SHOW ME YOURS on the Oxygen network. And every once in a while, I speak to Ryan [Gosling] and Tyler [Labine] and Scott [Vickaryous]. But I've stayed in touch with the girls much more. We're best friends.
Dear Terri, Katie's had a lot of jobs over the years: reporter, video worker, playing detective. She just seems to be wasting her many talents at the hospital cleaning bedpans and making beds. If you could choose a new job for Katie, what would you pick? Bev
Terri: Dear Bev, Oh, wow! She has had some crazy jobs that don't all seem to go together. Well, I want her to do something really substantial, instead of just these little jobs that help her out at the time. I want her to find a passion instead of having it be about men. So what would she be good at? Definitely something creative, and that has to do with people. Well, maybe something with reporting again. I think she was good at that. Maybe be a little more serious about it and not have to poison people to get the job.
Dear Terri, I am 14 and want to be an actress when I get older. Do you have any tips that could help me reach my goal? Kayla
Terri: Dear Kayla, Yes, let's see... Well, it's a good idea to get into maybe a local or regional theater company or take some classes in school, just to get your feet wet. But definitely stay in school and study as much as you can, as many different things as you can, because I always say that helps any actor. The more that you know about everything will help you in your career. And just believe in yourself. It's a really tough, tough business. You get a lot of criticism. "She's too short. She's too blonde. She's too this or that." It's always going to be something. You have to have faith in yourself and have a positive attitude and study as much as you can.
Dear Terri, What's the most challenging scene you've ever had to act out on AS THE WORLD TURNS and why? Kailin
Terri: Dear Kailin, Probably when I first started, they touched on the storyline that Margo was the one who pulled the plug on Casey, Katie's dad. I hadn't really had a lot of time to get to know Katie as a character and get to know Margo and the history. It's an emotional, sad story, and I really was scared that I wouldn't give it its proper depth because I didn't really know a lot about the characters yet. So I was really nervous about that, and I wished they would have waited a little bit longer to touch on that.
Dear Terri, You probably know Katie better than anyone. My question is, if Paul Leyden as Simon could come back to ATWT forever, and not just for a few episodes, who do you think Katie would truly choose to be with, Simon or Mike? Shelli
Terri: Dear Shelli, Oh, that's a tough one. I'd have to say Simon. They probably would never have even introduced the Mike storyline if he'd have stayed, so it would be different. Also, because Simon's character changed a little bit. But, I think ultimately, he's her soulmate.
Dear Terri, Whenever I see pictures of you in soap magazines, I always love the outfits you're wearing. I was wondering where you go clothes shopping. Nicole
Terri: Dear Nicole, Well, usually we have stylists for the shoots. Thank God, because I'm not that good at picking out clothes on my own. That always makes it fun. And, in fact, I end up buying the clothes most of the time. I myself have not been shopping in probably about a year because I was pregnant. I mean, I went shopping for maternity clothes, but I haven't been shopping for real clothes. So I'm looking forward to doing that again. I love Anthropologie, and there's a lot of little boutiques around where I live that I love, too. Bloomingdale's is always great because they have all the designers.
Dear Terri, What kind of music do you listen to? Wyman
Terri: Dear Wyman, [My husband,] Artie Colombino. (Laughs.) I listen to a lot of different music. Who do I love right now? John Mayer. I'm a big Dave Matthews fan, and I love metal like Metallica and Guns N' Roses, that kind of stuff. And all the '80s music. I'm an '80s child.
Dear Terri, If you could not be an actress, what else would you like to do for a living? Christi
Terri: Dear Christi, I was actually thinking of this the other day. I would either like to be a teacher or maybe do something with interior design. Or produce, although I just don't know if I could do the difficult stuff like fire people and deal with controversy. The things that go along with that job.
You Ask The Question To Terri Colombino (CBS Soaps In Depth - Ocober 19, 2004) AS THE WORLD TURNS' newest mom, Terri Colombino (Katie), answers your questions!
Susan asks... I think you're great, and I love your character. We even named one of our kittens Katie. Anyway, my question is: Is Mark Collier (Mike) a really good kisser? Silly, I know, but millions want to find out!
Terri Colombino: That's a great question. Yes, I suppose he is. (Laughs) It's hard to judge that, because it's not a real kiss. You know? So it's not like someone that you've dated. But it's definitely not tough!
Carole asks... Congratulations on your new baby! I was just wondering if your male co-stars treated you any differently while you were pregnant?
Colombino: Oh, that's a good question. Actually, they did. They were very interested in what it's like for a woman, I think. Because we're all so close there, we really get to know each other pretty well, so they can ask the questions that they might not normally get to ask. Like, you know, "What does it feel like?" and stuff like that. And they were a little more sensitive with me. Especially the crew guys. That was great. They were always bringing me ginger ale and asking me all about it, and everybody always was guessing whether it was going to be a girl or a boy. I just got a lot more attention, I think. So that was nice.
Becky asks... How did you and your husband, Arthur, decide on the name Julia Catherine for your new baby?
Colombino: Well, Catherine is my mom's name. It was really important to me to give her a namesake. And Julia, I just thought of one day, and Artie immediately loved it. We still would try to think of others, but we were always stuck on the name Julia. I think she was whispering in my ear. She liked the name Julia, so it popped into my head.
Kathleen asks... Did any of your castmates come to visit you and see the new baby? Who's given the best advice?
Colombino: Yes, Kelly [Menighan Hensley, Emily] was here immediately, because she loves babies. And then Michael Park (Jack) and his wife Laurie, came by, too. Anne Sayre (ex-Mitzi) brought [her new son] Johnny by, and we took pictures of them. I just brought Julia to the studio this past week, and that was fun, Everybody was like, "It's so weird to see you with a baby." So many people have given me good advice. All of the moms - Martha [Byrne, Lily], Kelly and Maura [West, Carly] - they've all been there for me the whole time while I was pregnant. And I'm sure they will continue to be the source of my information. So I'm lucky to have them around.
Becky M. asks... Do love scenes make you nervous? Has anything funny happened while making them?
Colombino: They usually don't make me nervous as long as I'm with someone that I've been working with for a while. Let's see... has anything funny happened? (Laughs) Well, when Mark [Collier] and I had our love scenes right before Simon came back, they wanted them pretty nude, so he was wearing a sock over his... package. So everyone around the studio gave him socks. And somebody in wardrobe, I think, gave him one of the kids' socks, the really tiny ones. So that was pretty funny.
Lindsay asks... What has been one of the funniest scenes to film?
Colombino: Probably some of the stuff that Trent [Dawson, Henry] and I did on the island with Cooley. When he had to kiss Cooley with the poison lipstick, that was pretty funny. Anything with Trent, really. I mean - enough said!
Krista asks... What's your favorite Mike and Katie scene? What is it like working with Mark Collier?
Colombino: Well, I loved filming the stuff when we did the dance [sequence], although it was completely out of the blue and the viewers probably wondered what the heck was going on. But it was so fun to film and the dancers that we had were great and really helped us out. And working with Mark is a dream. He's just so fun and doesn't take it too seriously - I mean, he takes it seriously enough, but we always joke around, and I know that when I work with him, it's going to be a fun day.
Ashlee Dye asks... Are you and Paul Leyden (ex-Simon) good friends? Because the chemistry between you on screen is incredible.
Colombino: Thank you. Yes, we are very good friends. In fact, he is coming to town pretty soon, and I can't wait to see him because he hasn't met the baby yet. It's hard having him in L.A. now. We don't get to see each other as much, but we still talk on the phone all the time. I really treasure that friendship because he's an amazing person.
Jessica Lynn asks... Which actor on the show makes you laugh the most?
Colombino: Trent, because I work with him so much. But then, the other two who are just hilarious around the studio are Martha and Michael. They always just make everything so fun and light. And they're both so witty. I wish I could be like that.
Bettina asks.. I'd like to start off saying I think you are a wonderful actress. Keep up the good work! I would like to know which ATWT veteran has inspired you the most?
Colombino: Well, thank you for the compliment. Inspired me the most? Well, I always feel weird calling Martha a veteran, but I guess she is because she's been around for so long. I think she's inspired me the most because she has such a wonderful life inside and outside of work. She's been there for so long, yet she's still passionate about it. She doesn't just phone in her performances, which can become really easy to do if you've been at a place for a long time. She has a wonderful family life, too. Finding that balance is my main goal, and I think she's a person who's done it really well.
Cammi asks... How do you like working with Snickers, and would you want a rabbit in real life?
Colombino: I love Snickers! I actually had a rabbit when I was a little girl. Her name was Bun Bun. But she ran away. Hopped away, I guess you would say! Now, probably not. They're kind of hard to take care of. But I love that little bunny and just to be able to play with her is fun. Although I'm thinking Katie needs to ditch Snickers. I know it's fun to see the little rabbit on TV, but it just really makes the character a little too young and bizarre.
Carol asks... What has been your favorite storyline involving Katie?
Colombino: I guess probably Katie and Simon falling in love. Having to live together, trying to get him his green card and all that stuff. Her kind of pining over him, and then him finally just falling in love with her, too. I loved how it happened slowly but naturally. That doesn't happen a lot on daytime, and I was glad to be a part of something like that.
Sandra asks... The love scenes with Katie and Mike were probably the sexiest I have ever witnessed on daytime. (Especially the shower scene!) How was that for you, since I've never witnessed you in a scene like that?
Colombino: That was tough. I was a little embarrassed because it was such an odd thing - it was just this shower in the middle of the studio. And again, with [Mark's] sock, so... yeah. It was odd.
Becky asks... Are you ready to come back to work, and will Artie be baby-sitting?
Colombino: Yes, I actually am ready to go back to work. I mean, I've been gone for a while. I was lucky. I had a long maternity leave, and when I go back, Julia will be three months exactly. So that makes me happy, because I got to be with her for the first three months, which everyone says is the hardest. I think Artie will be with her, definitely for a little while. Although I might try to find a nanny to come to work with me. Otherwise, it will be one of us that's with her, because that's really important to me.
Marcy asks... I adore Trent Dawson. You two have excellent chemistry. Would you like to see a romance bloom between Henry and Katie?
Colombino: Thanks - I adore Trent, too. But I don't think that they have romantic potential. I mean, what I love about their relationship is that he pines for her, but it will never be realized. And I think that's kind of true to life. There's always those friendships where one person likes the other person, but it's always just going to be a friendship. But I would like for them to get drunk, get together one night, and then be embarrassed and have to deal with it. See how it affects their friendship. That might be fun.
Soap News (TV Guide Online - October 2004) My wingman, Nick, who's helping me on the red carpet, spots new parents Terri Colombino (Katie, ATWT) and her husband Arthur. He learns that they are already considering a little brother or sister for Julia Catherine, even though Colombino, an only child, knows that's also a fine way to grow up.
Colombino Returns (TV Guide Online - September, 2004) It's official! Terri Colombino has renewed her contract to play As the World Turns ' Katie Frasier. "I'm psyched to have the deal done and be back on the show," she tells TV Guide Online. Colombino, who ironed out her deal while on maternity leave, appreciates the time she's been able to spend at home with new daughter Julia Catherine . "She'll be 3 months old by the time I go back to ATWT , and it's just been amazing to be with her," she shares. "It was difficult the first couple of weeks - you kiss sleep goodbye - but it's gotten better, and she's just the most amazing, sweetest thing." Colombino returns to work in mid-October.
Sitcom Eyes ATWT Actress! (ABC Soaps In Depth - August 31, 2004) Amidst speculation about whether Terri Colombino (Katie) will re-sign with ATWT during her maternity leave came word from a source that the actress had tested for a co-starring role on the NBC sitcom JOEY. Alas, the FRIENDS spinoff instead cast Andrea Anders as Joey's potential love interest. "Terri was thrilled to even be on the short list," her rep tells us. "She was one of their top picks, and NBC has said that they will keep her in mind for future projects."
Save The Drama (Pregnancy Magazine - July 2004) Daytime star Terri Colombino's world turns towards motherhood.
Terri Colombino says that, aside from some serious morning sickness, pregnancy has been a pretty peaceful experience so far. That's a good thing, because Colombino's on-screen life is all the drama she can handle.
Colombino, 29, plays Katie Frasier on the daytime drama AS THE WORLD TURNS. Like any self-respecting soap opera heroine, Colombino's character has had her share of excitements and drama. Just recently, Katie had no sooner accepted her current love's proposal when her presumed-dead husband shows up. Don't you hate it when that happens?
Fortunately, Colombino's off-screen life is much less turbulent. Married to musician Artie Colombino since 2001, the two are expecting their first child in July. And there are no back-from-the-dead husbands, evil twin sisters, con men or kidnappers anywhere in sight.
But Colombino had feared there would be some drama - and suspense - involved in her quest to become pregnant. "I'd always been worried that it would take me a while to conceive, because it took my mom seven years. And I have a tilted uterus, which they say doesn't affect it, but in my mind I was always worried. We had been married for two years and we knew that at some point in the future we wanted to start having kids, but we weren't quite there yet. But then I was on set, and I was having a storyline with a baby, who was the most precious thing. And [co-star] Maura West (Carly) said, 'If you're around this baby, it's going to make you want one.' Sure enough, about a month later, all I was doing was talking about babies. And my husband said, 'You are baby crazy.' Then he worked on a short film and they had a baby on that project, too. So then Artie came home and said, 'OK, now I understand what you're feeling.' And the bizarre thing is, it turned out we had both worked with the same baby. So we decided to start trying, and the first month, it happened." Colombino gives some of the credit to the ovulation sticks that helped pinpoint her most fertile time. "I realize now how lucky we were, because I know so many people who are trying and trying, and it must be the most frustrating thing."
WORKING GIRL
Colombino says she felt great the first month, and then, "All of a sudden, one day it was like, 'Whoosh!' and the morning sickness arrived." Unfortunately, her schedule didn't allow her the luxury of lying around relaxing. "Right around Christmas, when I was just hitting the end of my first trimester, I had such a big storyline, I was working five days a week. It was hard to concentrate, and it was such a great story that I really wanted to give it my all, but I felt like I had the worst hangover you can imagine. The crew would always bring me ginger ale - that's what they use as champagne on the show, so they always have it handy. It was like my body knew when I was working, though, because I never threw up while I was taping, but as soon as I'd walk off the set, I'd have to run to the bathroom."
To her relief, Colombino no longer battles the morning sickness that plagued her first few months of pregnancy. She kept a stash of crackers by the bed to eat first thing in the morning, which seemed to help. Another godsend: hair and makeup people who could make her look gorgeous, even when she wasn't feeling so great. "I'd just head to work in sweats, with a ponytail and no makeup, and they'd work their magic."
Given her character's current "torn between two lovers" predicament, Colombino was somewhat surprised that show executives decided not to write her pregnancy into the storyline. "I end up sleeping with them both within like a week, and that was already written in the storyline before they knew I was pregnant, so they really had the perfect opportunity for a "Who's the Daddy?" thing. But they had done that storyline a lot recently, plus they wanted to keep my character kind of youthful. And we already have a bunch of babies on the show. But I'm actually kind of thankful, though, because the way soaps go, in five years I could have an 18 year old."
In true TV fashion, the show has strategically managed to conceal Colombino's growing belly. Colombino notes, "My purses have gotten increasingly larger, and I've been standing behind a lot of desks, computer monitors, you name it."
With Colombino on maternity leave this summer, her character will be absent from the show for a while. Colombino suspects that poor Katie won't be off enjoying some tropical getaway. I think she's going to be in the looney bin," Colombino laughs.
PREPARING FOR BABY
Her character has worked as a workout guru (as well as a nurse's aide, private eye, anchorwoman and waitress). Off-screen, Colombino was a fan of the FIT MAMA pregnancy workout, which is "amazing" and features salsa and cardio. Now she's mainly just walking, which she hopes is enough to balance out one pregnancy side effect. "I love to eat, and my sweet tooth has just gone crazy since I've gotten pregnant."
Aside from registering for Lamaze classes, Colombino admits she hasn't done a lot in the way of preparations. "I've gotta start thinking about this soon." She hasn't been slacking off when it comes to shopping, though. She borrowed the maternity padding from work to predict what she might look like later in the pregnancy, which helped in buying maternity clothes (A Pea in the Pod is one of her favorite shopping destinations).
Colombino is grateful that drab maternity wear is now a thing of the past, thanks in part to the recent trend of stylish pregnant stars. "Sarah Jessica Parker had the cutest clothes," Colombino says. "Now it's hip to be pregnant." Colombino - who recently hosted a "fun pregnancy fashions" segment on the LIVING IT UP WITH ALI & JACK talk show - says she loves her Seven maternity jeans. "I wear them every day." Colombino also cites one positive effect pregnancy has had on her body. "I'm enjoying having the cleavage for once."
Colombino knows she's having a girl, and while the couple has a few strong possibilities for names, they'd like to wait and see their daughter before making a final decision. Several of her friends have been pregnant recently, requiring Colombino to make lots of shopping trips for shower gifts. She admits she sometimes gave into the impulse to pick up a little something for her own bundle of joy. "I tried not to buy too much girls' stuff, just in case the sonogram was wrong, but you just can't resist."
The baby's nursery is already done in pink, but her husband is keeping the final decorating scheme under wraps. "He's making the room a surprise, so I'm not really sure when I'll get to see it. He's so sweet and wants to be part of the whole process. He can't wait for 'Daddy's little girl.' "
Colombino also raves about her co-star friends, who have been quick to offer everything from advice to donations of baby bounty. There's a definite advantage to having cast mates with great taste, Colombino says. "I get the most gorgeous hand-me-downs." Ellen Dolan, who has a 3-year-old girl, has already offered use of a portable crib, while Kelley Hensley will guide Colombino through the process of baby registries. Dolan also whipped up a batch of homemade "belley butter" to prevent stretch marks. "The fans have been great, too, although many people probably don't even know I'm pregnant."
A natural worrywart, Colombino says she sees her parents in a whole new light. "I remember my mom staying up late waiting for me to get home, and now I totally understand that now."
Colombino - an only child - said she'd like to break that family tradition, and hopes to give her daughter at least one sibling. "Then again, maybe we'd better wait and see how this one goes," she laughs.

Comings & Goings (Soap Opera Digest - June 2004) AS THE WORLD TURNS Terri Colombino (Katie Frasier): She left for maternity leave in mid-May, but her last air date is June 30. She should be gone for about four months. "I was only going to be gone for three months, but then the story wrapped up a month early, which I didn't ask for," says the mom-to-be, who is due in July. "It's gonna be weird having time off, but it'll be nice, too. I'll have some time with [husband] Artie, just us. I've worked solid for six years, so I think it's time for a break. Then, once the baby comes, I'm gonna be pretty busy!"
Great Expectations (CBS Soaps In Depth - June 15, 2004) During her last week on the set of AS THE WORLD TURNS, Terri Colombino was pulling double shifts to complete taping all her scenes before going on maternity leave to prepare for the birth of her fist child with husband Arthur Colombino. But during a brief moment of calm, the mother-to-be found time to chat with Soaps In Depth about her impending motherhood. "I feel good," she reports with a smile. "I was sick at the beginning, so that was rough, but ever since then, it's been - knock on wood - pretty easy. I'm getting a little anxious to be done with work about now, but that's good, because [it's almost] my last day."
THE SWEET TREATS SHE HAD TO HAVE
Because she normally takes good care of herself, Colombino didn't really find herself altering her habits that much when she became pregnant. "I've always tried to keep a pretty healthy diet," she reveals. "Of course, I'll let myself have some sweets if I want to, and that's definitely what I've wanted during my pregnancy - sweets." However, she does admit that she never craved unusual "treats" like pickles and ice cream. "I haven't had anything weird," Colombino chuckles. "The only thing is, I normally like eggs, but I cannot even look at them or smell them since I've become pregnant. They just gross me out!"
THE FEAR SHE JUST CAN'T SHAKE
As a first time mother, Colombino is full of questions, but fortunately, there are plenty of moms with answers in the ATWT cast and crew. "I'm so lucky to have them around," she admits. "Because, obviously, everybody has their own story. So it's good to hear that you can't really plan anything. I'm such a planner. It just makes me feel so much more secure to know that I can call them anytime and ask them a question and not sound stupid." And while she can't wait to welcome her new addition into the world, Colombino is still nervous: "I'm getting a little scared now," she laughs "I'm looking forward to it, and I can't wait to see what the baby looks like. I just don't want to go through the birth - it's scary!" While she hasn't ruled out natural childbirth, the actress isn't totally committed to it either. "I'm just going to wait and see," she muses. "And have the anesthesiologist available... just in case I need it."
BABY'S TOUGHEST SCENES
While she's not due until July 13, Colombino is ready to meet her baby now. "I've been getting impatient," she says, "I keep telling people I feel like a kid during the last week of school before summer break. The weather is getting nice, and I want to be outside. I don't want to be learning lines with full hair and makeup. You feel like you want to be in a more natural state," she adds, "And this is definitely the complete opposite of natural! Plus, I've been having to do these crazy scenes, crying and screaming, and I'm like, 'Is this affecting my child? The poor thing probably thinks it's real.' So I just want to be done." But while she finished taping scenes in mid-May, there's still quite a bit of time to fill before the blessed event. "Being at work this whole time has made the time fly by," she says, "And now that I'm not going to be at work, it's going to creep by." Luckily Katie will still be on-screen through June. "Yeah. I was thinking about that the other day." Colombino chuckles "At least I'll have something to watch!"
HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT
At the time Terri Colombino became pregnant, her ATWT alter ego had recently slept with two different men. But headwriter Hogan Sheffer hated the idea of saddling the blonde bombshell with a baby, so her growing bump had to be kept out of sight with strategic wardrobe and props. "It was easier at the beginning," she explains, "Because they had me in a lot of those spring trench coats, which were perfect, because they're baggy anyway." While out to dinner with her hubby Artie one evening, the actress was approached by a fan who already had guessed her condition from Katie's constant close-ups. "She goes, 'I knew you were pregnant' Colombino relates, "The audience is savvy, They know when people are pregnant, and it's stupid to try and completely hide it. It's fun for them to be able to go 'Oh! I saw it!'" she continues, "So you can't worry about it too much. It's kind of a fun period in your life, and you can look back on those tapes and laugh at all the big plants you were standing behind!"
PAIN INDEX: "My nail got ripped off in a scene today," Colombino confesses, "and I was really in pain. I was like, 'Oh no! I'm about to give birth! This shouldn't even be an issue!'"
KEEPING FIT: "I was doing a lot of yoga in the beginning, but that got more difficult as I've gotten bigger," she says, "I miss hard workouts. Because you have 25 extra pounds on you, you can't do a workout like you used to be able to."
Which castmate has the best relationship with the fans? (Soap Opera Digest - May 18, 2004) Terri Colombino: "Everyone on our show is really good about connecting with the fans and writing back, but I'd have to say Mark [Collier, Mike] at this point because he's always writing back personally, making sure he gets his e-mails and writing back to the e-mails. I see him doing it all the time, so I know that he's really good about it. And when we were at the fan club luncheon, they kept telling us, 'Speed it up! Don't take as much time with each person.' And he said, 'No, these people come a long way and pay a lot of money, so I'm gonna talk to them for as long as they want, and if I have to stay here forever, then I will.' I thought that was really cool, because I [felt] the same way. I kept thinking, 'I'm going to get so tired because I'm pregnant, and I'll want to go home.' But the line kept going, and I thought, 'I can't not give a picture or say hi to someone.'"
March of Dimes WalkAmerica 2004 (Soap Opera Digest - May 18, 2004) On April 25, AS THE WORLD TURNS's Kelley Menighan Hensley (Emily) - celebrity spokesperson for the March of Dimes - and her colleagues put on their walking shoes to raise money for WalkAmerica 2004. "My heart is probably more committed to this charity than any other because of how blessed my husband, Jon [Hensley, Holden], and I feel that we have our children and had them with no complications, when one out of eight children are born premature," shares the actress.
PERFECT MATCH: Terri Colombino (Katie) and her husband, Artie, also pounded the pavement. Says Menighan Hensley: "Terri was an easy one to recruit because she's six months pregnant and I was like, 'You are going to be perfect: Stick the belly out and let's go.'"
CBS Gossip - What To Expect When Expecting (Soap Opera Digest - May 18, 2004) Terri Colombino (Katie) knows that fans show their love in many ways, but the pregnant actress never expected the reception she got at the fan club luncheon. "It was like a shower," laughs Colombino, who was loaded down with presents. "I walked home and [my husband] Artie was like, 'Oh, my God, look at all this stuff!' Beautiful things - hand-knit, homemade, really nice gifts. I wasn't expecting it. I was like, 'I have to have a baby more often - this is great!'"
A Baby Story (Soap Opera Weekly Online) Anne Sayre (ex-Mitzi, AS THE WORLD TURNS) and husband Tony Grimaldi welcomed the newest member of their family -- son John Sayre Grimaldi -- on May 3. SOAP OPERA WEEKLY caught up with first-time mom Sayre to see how she's doing and hear all about the new man in her life... WEEKLY: Have you heard from former castmates or the fans? Sayre: Terri (Colombino , Katie) and Artie came to visit us at the hospital the day after he was born and that was nice. They were so cute. You could see they were so excited and had lots of questions, just anticipating themselves being in that position soon. Terri held the baby and she was a natural. They brought me the cutest little outfit for him and little sunglasses to go with it.
Terri Talks! (SoapCity Online - March 2004)
In 1998, ATWT fans watched a young actress named Terri Conn make her daytime debut as young schemer Katie Peretti.
Katie grew up in front of our eyes, and so did Terri. She married Artie Colombino in 2001 (becoming Terri Colombino) and now, Terri and Artie are expecting their first child. Meanwhile, Katie gained a husband, lost a husband, fell in love with Mike, regained her husband - which cost her Mike (who can really blame him?), then lost her husband again. In the middle of this personal and professional whirlwind, SoapCity sat down with Terri to discuss all the challenges currently facing her, and her bubbly alter-ego.
SoapCityAlina: Most important thing first: Are you enjoying being pregnant?
Terri Colombino: I'm enjoying it now that I'm not so sick. The sickness was not fun. No one could have prepared me for that. But I'm feeling great now, and enjoying this time between being sick and when I can still breathe. This point is really fun. It's becoming real, I'm starting to show. Before, I thought maybe they're wrong. Maybe I'm not really pregnant. Maybe I'm just sick for no reason.
SCA: Has it been hard learning your lines with hormones turning your head into a thought-free zone?
TC: I haven't felt that much of a difference. I haven't really had pregnancy head too much, but there are certain days when I'll have it so bad. I'll be dropping things and not remember what I was just saying two minutes ago. It's really frustrating. But, Katie's head is worse than any pregnancy head. I mean, the poor thing! I just keep thinking about how much she's been through. Simon made her think that he hated her, and he was gone. Then she found out that that wasn't true and he was out there somewhere, so she had hope again. Then he died, so the hope was gone. Then he comes back, so she has hope again. And then she thinks: this is it, they're going to be together forever. And it didn't happen. That's like somebody dying three times. Plus, she's lost Mike now too, who she was so close to. He was her crutch. He was her way out of that depression that she was in. And now he's just pushing her further down into it. I wouldn't be surprised if Katie needs some Prozac pretty soon! Because her way out of her life before was Simon and his love. The idea that you can be with someone, that you guys can be a team and everything will be okay. But she can't believe that anymore. And that's really sad.
SCA: Did it help or hurt to be pregnant and emotional when you played those heart-wrenching scenes of Simon leaving Katie again?
TC: That was really one of those days that an actor just waits for. We really didn't plan it; we just kind of went with it. That's why I loved working with Paul (Leyden; Simon) so much, because we would always do that. We never really rehearsed. We would run our lines, but then we would just go for it and whatever came out, came out. (That show) was all true emotion anyway, because he is leaving, again. But when you really feel something like that for real, and you weren't expecting it, that's the best feeling in the world, as an actor. And that's what happened that day.
Star Style - Just Askin' Terri Colombino (Soap Opera Digest - March 23, 2004) How have you adapted your style for your pregnancy? Terri: "I just started getting clothes. My mom was recently in town, so of course we went shopping, and it's so funny because they have these little pillows - like they have here [at the studio] for when a character is pregnant - that you can strap on and it adds three months, so you can see how things are going to fit. We got some spring things for when I will be bigger and they're really cute - I was surprised! We only got a couple of shirts; pants will be the tough part, I'm sure. But I hear they make Seven jeans and Earl jeans in maternity now, so I'll definitely be getting some of those. Most people say, 'Don't spend a lot of money on maternity clothes because you don't wear them too long.' So now, in the transition period when my regular pants are tight but I can't wear maternity clothes yet, I just go to H&M or Old Navy and get a pair that's one size bigger than I normally wear. One of my girlfriends gave me this tip: take a hair rubber band, put it around the button, then through the buttonhole and then put the other end over the button, and it gives you an extra inch. Of course, that's when it still fits everywhere else, but not the belly!"
Who is Terri's best dressed co-star? (CBS Soaps In Depth - March 9, 2004) Terri Colombino: "Kelley Menighan Hensley (Emily). By far. She looks good every day coming into work, when all the rest of us are wearing our PJs. And she even looks good in her PJs! She's just very individual. It's her style, nobody else's. She doesn't totally follow trends, but she always mixes in something that's hip and happening."
Click! (Soap Opera Digest 2004) The stars came out for Fashion Week at New York City's Bryant Park.
SHOW AND TELL: A clearly expecting Colombino brought along husband Artie. "I've never seen him like this. He's so happy," says the actress of the proud papa-to-be.
Performer of the Week (Soap Opera Digest - February 24, 2004) Terri Colombino and Paul Leyden (Katie and Simon, AS THE WORLD TURNS)
First off, this is not intended to slight Mark Collier (Mike), who succeeded at the thankless task of convincing Katie (and us) that she could love again. Instead, consider this a requiem for a romance lost. We had almost forgotten how much we missed the Frasier fusion. But it all came flooding back, seeing Colombino and Leyden together again - effortless, magnetic, spine-tingling, unbridled. Boy, they were good together.
From the first scene, they year that they had spent apart melted away. There was such an immediate ease, a shocking physicality and poignant intimacy to their connection that the duo could cut through the inherent melodrama in the dialogue and situation and let the raw, shimmering emotion spill out. There was a weight to their performances, so you absolutely believed that whatever happened between Katie and Simon meant everything - that they really could die without one another. It was the way they held a look or extended an embrace just a few seconds longer than expected; the way their eyes constantly glistened with tears; the way she melted into him and he seemed to try and breathe her in.
With those sparks, words didn't really matter, but it was hard not to get choked up when Simon timidly asked if Katie had missed him and her answer got caught up in an anguished, incredulous sob. Or later, when he was desperate to remind her of their bond. "I want you confused, Katie," Simon shuddered, grasping at her. "I want to shake you up. I want you to feel me again." There were more layers, of course: Colombino had to taint Katie's exhilaration with wrenching confusion; Leyden's Simon juggled powerful persuasiveness and frazzled uncertainty.
What made their scenes truly heartbreaking was that every moment screamed one thing: They belong together. Chemistry is an overused word in the supercouple-strewn world of soaps, but these two have enough to make your toes curl. That, we can't help but miss - all over again.
Feud Awakening (CBS Soaps In Depth - February 24, 2004) A big fan of the game show FAMILY FEUD, Terri Colombino (Katie) always dreamed of someday being a contestant. "I remember when they would have the soap stars on," she confides, "and I thought "Now that I'm on a soap, I can do that!' But they only have people from DAYS OF OUR LIVES and THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, probably because it shoots in L.A. But that's not fair! I want to do it!'" And who would the actress bring with her to create an unbeatable ATWT team? "Liz Hubbard (Lucinda), Martha [Byrne, Lily], Hunt [Block, Craig], Trent [Dawson, Henry] and... Michael Park (Jack)," she decides. "That would be a good team - witty, funny and smart people. But I don't know if I belong up there! I don't know if I would get picked if our show got to do it, but I would be very upset if I didn't!"
A Pregnancy (CBS Soaps in Depth - February 10, 2004) Terri Colombino has announced that she and her husband Arthur are expecting their first child in July, but don't look for a pregnancy to present yet another twist in Katie's romance with Mike, already complicated by Simon's return. An ATWT rep assures In Depth that there are no plans to write Colombino's pregnancy into her storyline.
the news - buzz (Soap Opera Weekly - February 3, 2004) Taping Katie and Mike's hot shower scene on As The World Turns - you know, the one where Mark Collier showed his butt - didn't quite go off as planned. "It was supposed to be taped when I was about a month pregnant," reveals Terri Colombino, who's due in July. "Then the elevator that brings the new sets broke down; the shower was a new set. So they postponed it for three weeks. It was good for Mark. He got to work out more. But for me, I just got to grow more," she groans.
CBS Gossip - ATWT - Just Like Old Time (Soap Opera Digest - 2004) "We worked our butts off for three weeks, and I was pregnant and sick. It was hard," sighs Terri Colombino (Katie) of Paul Leyden's return as Simon - but that doesn't mean that it wasn't fun. "It reminded me of how goofy we used to be. Paul and I would just goof our way through the whole day, making each other laugh right up until they said, 'Action.' I'd be like, 'Oh, my God, I have the funniest story to tell you. It starts like this...' and then we would do the scene, and as soon as it was over, it was like, '... and then...' We just picked up where we left off."
Alive & Kicking (CBS Soaps In Depth - January 27, 2004) Feature Interview with Paul Leyden.
Caption: The actor remains close to his former on-screen wife. "I talk to Terri every day!" he reveals.
the news - buzz (Soap Opera Weekly) AS THE WORLD TURNS' Katie and Mike might not be going at it like rabbits yet, but two of their furrier co-stars are. While taping an upcoming scene with the animals, "We turned away and all of a sudden, I heard this noise," chuckles Terri Colombino (Katie). "Mark (Collier, Mike) could see them, but I couldn't." Collier adds, "I was trying not to crack. We both knew what was going on. Then Terri started screaming, 'They're doing it! They're doing it!' She was like a 5-year-old."
That's A Fact (CBS Soaps In Depth - January 27, 2004) The actress [Terri Colombino] was teased by hubby Arthur for her sexy Arm & Hammer toothpaste commercial.
Random Quotes (Soap Opera Weekly - January 20, 2004) Terri: "It's so not fair, because kids today can do their research on the Internet. We had to learn the whole Dewey Decimal System. I mean, c'mon!"
What defunct television show do you miss the most? (CBS Soaps In Depth - January 13, 2004) Terri: "I just haven't been into TV shows in so long. Probably THREE'S COMPANY because it was so light and funny. When I was younger, I was totally into watching TV, and I couldn't wait for that to come on every week."
Which co-star's work has impressed you the most lately? (Soap Opera Digest 2004) Grayson McCouch (Dusty, ATWT): "Terri Colombino [Katie]. She's doing some bang-up work. I always saw such a fresh, clean Midwestern girl in Terri, and her work was always buoyant, but recently, in the story with the weight of her feelings for Simon relative to Mike, whatever she's drawing on, she's bringing such depth to her work. Maybe it's just because I haven't been on the show long enough to see it before, but I'm seeing a side of her that makes me go, 'Whoa!' I think she's fantastic. What a performance. If I had the opportunity to work with her, I'd snatch it in a minute. And there's something about her that you would take home to Mom seven days a week."
